St. Stephens Presbyterian Church, Hamilton South

St. Stephen's is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand.

  • While grateful for and proud of our Presbyterian tradition, we gladly welcome all people of goodwill.
  • St Stephen's church fosters a spirit of Christian unity, and has always sought to cooperate with other denominations in the Hamilton South Community.
  • As a congregation, we are committed to being an inclusive church, welcoming all people irrespective of race, colour, political affiliation or sexual orientation. Our Statement of Inclusiveness is prominently displayed at our front door.
  • We are a small, friendly congregation, with a wide spread of ages. Our small size means people know each other, and we have a family atmosphere that soon makes visitors feel at home.
  • We are theologically diverse, and do not expect our people to conform to any one rigid code of Christian belief and practice.
  • In our worship services we aim to retain all that is best in the long tradition of the Christian Church, while using contemporary (and inclusive) language and relating worship to the lives that people live in our own day. As far as possible we invite people of the congregation to participate actively in our acts of worship.
  • We like to work cordially with all those committed to improving and enriching the life of the community around us.
  • Music plays a vital part in our worship services. We sing suitable hymns from the rich musical tradition of the Christian Church, and also cheerfully use many of the fine songs and hymns that have been written by our contemporaries for this twenty-first century, and for the people of our own country.
